DataKind is a datascience-for-good charity, helping NGOs and social science leaders answer difficult data science and analytics questions key to their effectiveness and helping them use and collect their data better.
When DataKind decided to expand to five global chapters, a trio of co-founders and I put forward Singapore as a site.
We hustled, lobbied heavily, won, and started up. I acted as Director of Operations for two years.
DataKind is particularly important in the Singapore datascience ecosystem training new data scientists with practical projects and skills versus their more theoretical groundings from Singaporean academia. Major projects have included such organizations as WWF, Riverkids, and running such notable events as Projector Accelerator Nights, Data Dives, and Climate Hack.
